Sometimes we would get to go for walks
in the lush countryside. We all enjoyed
the chance to go looking for a
"Lock & Load"party.

We had all kinds of toys to play with
like the 81 Mortar.

We even had a variety of fireworks to use with it.

The "Pig" six 106 Recoilless Rifles on wheels.

And of course, what else but a "Tank".
To take us for joy rides to the hard to
get places.

It was around Sept.. 67, we had loaded on to trucks to go see more of the country. Lets just say we went on a tour of the northern part. To cities like Phu Bai, Dong Ha, Con Thien, and Quang Tri. After spending thirty days at Con Thien on the DMZ. Where each morning we could look out and see North Vietnam. Somedays we could look up into the skies and see B-52' flying over. A minute or so later there would be an earthquake from the eggs that these birds over head had just laid.

We spent Christmas 1967 at the south end of Quang Tri.
The pictures here where taken Christmas Day,
and Chrismas dinner dropped in from mess hall at Phu Bai,
and as you can see we even had our own Christmas Tree.
With noise makers to bring in the New Year.

The first that I had heard about a "Party going on" was thirty minutes before we loaded aboard "Hue" helicopters to goto a "Block Party" being held in "Hue City". All I can tell you is things got a little out of hand and people got mad. After five days of all the loud music, I had to leave I couldn't hear no more, the music was so loud and the fireworks landed to close to me.

So my dear Uncle Sam sent me to beautiful Hawaii for thirty days to check me over. And would you believe it, while I was there here came along this short and little three Star General. He told me he had heard about our little block party. Then pinned this metal on me as he was telling me of all the good things I had done. And that he was so proud of me.

All of us got in poetry at one time. Sometimes you could hear one of guys reciting his favorite, something like this one; "Oh God, the shit has hit the fan".
Or "Damn those MooFoo's are getting close".
Or "What the hell was that"?
Or "It don't mean nothin, just don't mean nothin".

But my personal favorite was; "Yea, though I walk in the valley of the shadow of death, I fear no evil. Cause I'm the meanest, badest MooFoo in the valley. Just look and  you'll see in my hands I carry the power of Life or Death. I'll kill'em all and let God sort'em out". "HOLY SHIT, THEIR SHOOT'EN AT ME AGAIN" !!!

I hope you have enjoyed my story of some of the good times in the Corps. I know I'll never forget them. As I was going through the pictures for this web page. Old memories started to come back some good but a lot of bad ones too. At the time these pictures were taken, in some
I smile and some I don't. Those of you that were there, you can understand. For those of you that don't understand. Well all I can say is
"OF COURSE YOU DON'T YOU WERE NOT THERE" !!!
